Description Field

I am having trouble with the description field.  I am logged into the calendar and I can add an event, but the description field is not editable in the Add Event window.  I'm sure there is a simple explanation for it.  Any help would be great!  Thanks!

Re: Description Field

I see that in the documentation under "Configuration" that "Currently, the Description field is not used but is likely to be utilized in future display modules."  I have taken over webmaster duties from a previous person and events that were already in the calendar all have descriptions included (some with pictures and links), so it seems strange to me that the description field is blank but not editable when I'm adding a new event.

Re: Description Field

The description field of the categories isn't used currently, for add and edit events, it is.

Can you see if the calendar is using FCKeditor (there is a variable for this in the config.php file).  I wonder if that might not be set up properly and is causing this not to be editable.  Or, perhaps better yet, see if you can edit the page using a different Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, or using a different computer and see if the editor shows up properly.

Thanks,

Dana

Re: Description Field

Thanks for your prompt response on this post in September.  The truth is, I came in the next day or two and it worked for me, so I added the events I needed to add (with pictures and links).  I have been able to add one event to the calendar for 3 dates in December 2008 and was able to get an image in that Event, but I have need of adding events for next month and the FCKEditor is not rendering in any browser.  I found today that if I open the "Add Event" or "Edit Event" pages with Internet Explorer 5.2 (I'm working on a Mac), I can typed text into the description field, but the FCKEditor does not show up.  If I try "Add Event" or "Edit Event" in Safari or Firefox, the description field is a blank white background without even a place to type in simple text.  Is it possible there browser preferences I may have changed that are preventing the FCKEditor from loading properly?

I tried adding the "./." in the following line of code to both add_event.php and edit_event.php that I had seen on another post to no effect -

$oFCKeditor->BasePath = $calendar_url."/".$fck_editor_path;

Your help is greatly appreciated!  Any ideas?

Re: Description Field

I think I would remove your last change and then see if you can view the calendar using another computer, it doesn't make sense that it would just stop working unless there was some security change on your primary machine.

Thanks,

Dana

Re: Description Field

I am having the same problem.  Last month it let me add and edit.  Then it quit for a day, then let me add again.  This is a new website for us and we were really excited about the calendar because any adiot (me) could add/edit.  So, what do we do....   I sent an emai and was told it is probably the FCKeditor.  Well, that means nothing to me.  I need some help.  Please!

Re: Description Field

I had posted (accidentally in another thread about FCK Editor) that I had fixed my problem by changing security settings in Safari, or so I thought.  I'm really in the dark now as to why this is working sometimes and not others.  As of January 22nd this year, I had thought it was fixed as I changed some security settings in my web browser (Safari - I also use Firefox and it wasn't working there, if I recall correctly), but now that I have more events to add to the calendar, I find it is not working again and I have not reverted any of the security settings I changed when I thought I had fixed the problem.  I will see if I can try a Windows computer and perhaps edit the calendar with Internet Explorer, but I really need this to be working on my own workstation.  I may also try clearing the history and caches to see if that makes any difference.  If anyone has any other ideas, I would greatly appreciate the help.  Thanks!

Re: Description Field

F.Y.I. - The security changes I made last month that I had thought fixed the problem were checking "Always accept cookies" and unchecking "Block pop-up windows".

Re: Description Field

Hi,
I am facing exactly the same problem now.
Until now, I have been adding and editing events without problem, but now, when I want to add events, I just get a blank screen where the description form is supposed to be. So there is no way of describing what the event is about. It is strange. It seems that the program fails to load the fckeditor!
As this seems to be a common problem, is it possible to find a way of fixing it, please!
Now, I am blocked and do not know what to do.

Re: Description Field

No. I didn't try it with Safari. I am having that problem with Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 3. It used to be fine, I don't know why suddenly the description box doesn't appear.
Is there a way of installing an alternative editor? My project has stopped because of this problem with the form.
Hope to hear from you
Simeon.

Re: Description Field

I think that the issue might be a field in the config file that might not have been in a previous version.

Try adding something like the following to your config.php file:

$calendar_url = "http://mysite.com/calendar/";

Thanks,

Dana

Re: Description Field

Thanks Dana,

That line is already in the config.php file. And everything had been working fine before! I wonder if this happened after browser update, or if it is something which might have been changed on the server! Are there any special server requirements for the editor?
Is there an alternative editor I could use and how to set it up in the supercali program?

I have visited the website of fckeditor and I noticed that there are also other people who are reporting a similar problem with their browsers. I even left a message there, but until now, no suggestion on how to fix this problem.
Any help will really be appreciated.
Otherwise, I'll have to disable the fckeditor in supercali, although I find it was a very good feature.
Simeon.

Re: Description Field

The reason I suspect a possible problem on the server side is that the fckeditor is working fine on my testing server on xampp but can no longer been displayed on the live website.
Any help please!

Re: Description Field

Sorry to come back to this but, with the last test I've just made, it appears that the problem might not be due to the server.
I have called, on the live server, the sample files distributed with fckeditor (http://<your site>/<FCKeditor installation path>/_samples/default.html) and the form displays correctly.
But it still gives a blank section under 'description' on the form called by  ..../add_event.php in Supercali calendar.
The problem could be in the add_event.php script itself!
Normally, the scripts checks the existence of the fckeditor path and then displays its form, otherwise, it displays a normal box.
Why does the space under 'description' totally blank?
Please help, Dana!

Re: Description Field

Solved, finally!
In my config.php file, changed $calendar_url from 'http://www.xxxxxxxx.com/calendar/' to 'http://xxxxxxxxx.com/calendar/' and it worked.

Re: Description Field

Unfortunately, I don't understand all this editor talk.  I just want to be able to go under edit and change information.  Worked before and now doesn't .  It;s incredibly frustrating.  I give up...  Gonna get a new calendar.

Re: Description Field

Update:  we have written a better solution than the SuperCali solution, so we have given up on this calendar as well.

I had changed ours like this too, and it then worked....

Any ideas?

It is back to setting the description field to HIDDEN....
Tried giving the admin user all privliges, all checkboxes.... no go.

Re: Description Field

Looks like this might have fixed my issue too.

Changing this line in both the ADD_EVENT.PHP and EDIT_EVENT.PHP files....

FROM THIS:
    $oFCKeditor->BasePath    = $calendar_url.$fck_editor_path ;

TO THIS:
    $oFCKeditor->BasePath    = $fck_editor_path ;

Re: Description Field

I fixed this problem by changing placement of slash in cofig.

from this:

$calendar_url = "http://localhost/www.mysite.com/supercali";
$fck_editor_path = "/fckeditor/";

to:

$calendar_url = "http://localhost/www.jennifersit.com/supercali/";
$fck_editor_path = "fckeditor/";
